Lazy Sunday

Maizey was super under the weather today. After a night of throwing up (alllll night) she was exhausted and happy to laze around. We were happy to oblige. It was a lazy day of Max and Ruby, books and naps.

I am hoping for a better night - for both of us.
Poor girl. I hate seeing her sick.

Weekend With Nannie

My mom was here for the weekend and like always following such a high, comes the inevitable crash. I love having her visit, I hate when she leaves. Our weekend was full of walking, coffee, playing and watching Maizey climb all over Nannie. We only wish she could have stayed longer!

IMG_7473

Every morning since she left, Maizey has asked if Nannie is upstairs when she wakes up. My mom just has this ability to be right at home in our home. I get to sleep in and wake up to my kids fed and dressed. We tried new recipes and sat in the sun. I honestly just can't say enough about how much I love having her here.

Thanks for everything Mom, and pleeeasseee come again soon!! We love you!

Hoochies In The House

It was around this time last year that I took Maizey to her friends second birthday party. At the party they had a bouncy house with a little slide on it. What could be more perfect for a two year old birthday party, right? Her friends Dad is an avid outdoorsman and a bit of practical joker. He thought it would be fun to throw some fishing hoochies in the bouncy house for the kids to play with. Well, Maizey was terrified of them. What? You didn't love these little rubber, weird looking things flying at you while jumping? I don't get it either.

IMG_7423r

Anyhow, it seems that in the last year, sister has changed her mind. A few days ago we were outside doing some yard work (I was working, she was trying to stand exactly where I was raking) when she found a random bag FULL of hoochies laying on the ground.

IMG_7415r

My guess is that they got left out of Brians tackle box when he was cleaning and organizing it for the coming season (big business in this house). She ripped that bad boy open and before I knew what was happening she was elbows deep in these filthy little rubber fishing contraptions and WOW did she ever love them.

IMG_7414r

I no longer had to worry about her standing where I was raking, they kept her entertained for... a really, really long time. She calls them her Octopuses and they now live in her backpack. We have taken them with us almost every time we've left the house and thanks to a suggestion from our neighbor, she plans on taking them in the bath with her.
We have two rules 1) if they don't make it back to their home when finished - to the garbage they go. 2) Jace can't have them. (This does not make him happy).

IMG_7439r
Hey, whatcha got there?

IMG_7427r
Now Jace, this is what we call a hoochie

IMG_7428r
This is the part that looks like a head, you know what I mean?

IMG_7426r
Now, if you promise not to tell Mom, I will give you one....

IMG_7432r
There you go. But if anyone asks, you didn't get it from me.

IMG_7430r
Hmmm...so this is what we call a hoochie. I call this weird, but, strangely enough, kind of tasty looking...

IMG_7433
Ya, I'm gonna give it a go...

So there. Jace is not allowed to have any hoochies and Maizey finds hoochies highly entertaining.

(There are a number of hoochie jokes that can accompany this post. Insert at your own will. I find them all funny. I am just not good enough to come up with them on my own. )

A (not so) Wild Day

I got to spend the day at Kamloops Wildlife Park last week with some of my favorite people.

photo(7)

Its like we have never been apart. Thats why I love them. And their kids.

Collage1

I wish that we all didn't live so far away and we could spend our afternoons laying around Mike and Lynnettes pool getting a sun tan and drinking copious amounts of beer. Minus the hangovers - I hear they really suck when you have kids that need attention at 6am. Just like the old days.

Collage2

Ok, maybe I don't wish for the old days, but I do wish we all lived closer.

Collage3

In the eight years since we have been out of college, three husbands and seven and half kids have been added to the mix. We pick up right where we left off every time we get together. Once a year just isn't enough though.

Collage4

Thanks for such a fun day every one. I loved how well our kids got along and how we got to visit with no interruptions. I loved that Lynnette and Kate and Russell came for a visit too. I loved seeing my favorite little Doherty family and want to see you all again soon!!!
(p.s Andrea, I think my favorite picture is the one of Maizey helping push Carly and Cade walking beside and your belly at the end of the picture!!)

Easter 2012

As promised last year, I actually did something for Easter this year.
We got our crafty craft on and dyed some eggs with Ang and Corbin.

Turns out two year olds... and Ang, don't want to wait five minutes before they can take the egg out of the dye. So we wound up with some lightly colored eggs and some funky colored ones.

IMG_7255

I think I had more fun than anyone. Heh.

The Easter Bunny made a stop here in full force this year...there were those silly plastic eggs filled with little treats hidden around our living room and a tiny little basket with nothing more than a skipping rope, an egg of plastic bunny's with big ears as a game and a chocolate bunny and plenty of that Easter grass crap that is immediately everywhere and makes me want to scream, but that made Maizey extremely happy.

IMG_7264
weeee - chocolate for breakfast!!

She SO doesn't understand this kind of stuff yet - on Sunday morning when we asked her if she thought the Easter Bunny had made a stop at our house, she very seriously replied 'he only goes to Paolas house. That's where all the baskets are' - Needless to say she was totally surprised at what she found upstairs.

********

We celebrated our friend Dekens christening with a feast like only the Spataro clan can put out.

It was a nice little Easter Sunday morning - I even waited outside the Church for Mass to let out, so, like, that totally counts as going to Church this year. ~that's one for me~

IMG_7277

Maizey was not into the sitting still and being quiet during the...what do you call it when people are being baptised? service? ceremony? celebration? - anyways, during that, so we spent most of it outside, before I decided to take her home and come back alone. In the ten minutes that took, it was all over and everyone left. I missed the whole thing. Regardless, it was nice and Deken was super cute in his little white suit.

********

My hands have nice blisters and my back muscles are thanking me - our yard is getting raked.

********

Because I think its what Jesus drank when he... ya, I totally don't know what Easter is about - sorry - because it's what WE wanted to drink when we got thirsty, we made some mean margaritas to go with our turkey dinner.

IMG_7396
It looks like we are few margs in at this point, but we seriously aren't. This was sip #1. Honest. We were just laughing, thats all

Because we are of the proper crowd, we used a two quart measuring cup to mix them in and there was absolutely nothing measured about it. Brian's dad is a pro at them, yo.

********

It's taking a super long time for my photos to upload, and I have nothing left to say. So let's just sit in awkward silence until they are done, okay?

.......................... (still waiting).....
.......(the Blue Jays won tonight, so there's that. If you care about baseball. Brian does. He wants all of us to get Blue Jays hats this year. Seriously, he wants us to be the family all matchy matching in his favorite ball team attire. He doesn't know me at all.)............
...............................(we skyped with Shane this morning *my youngest brother* and he was super pumped because he got 87% on one of his final papers. I asked what class it was - get ready for this - History of Tudor England between 1480 and 1601. I don't even know where to begin. I guess I should just be glad that there are people out there wanting to learn this stuff so that, you know, history can be preserved and stuff).....
................................................(stilllllll waiting)..............

.....(okay, done)......

Happy Easter 2012

(Brian just read this - he says it's called a "Baptism" .... *shaking my head in shame. I totally knew that* - he is such a showoff. )

Alberta Bound

As I mentioned in my previous post, last weekend we went home to my parents place for a visit. It was one of the most calm, easy going, relaxing weekends we have had in a long time. I suppose that is what happens when I don't try to spread us too thin - which I have been known to do on occasion... (heh)
I took well over 100 pictures while we were there. I know, right? It seems silly, but honestly, I just love seeing the rest of my family with my kids... my parents, my brothers, my sister-in-laws, my nieces, my friends... I love it. (Although, there were also a few key family members missing - Riley, Shane and Stephanie. Its the thought that counts though!) So I can't resist.
I wanted to show all of the photos to my mom, but I knew I wouldn't be able to post them all on here, so just for fun, I put them into a slide show. (Don't worry, I won't feel bad if you stop reading now, let alone watch it - it may only be cute to her. And Rimini. And Trudy. Hard to say!)

So, while this doesn't include every single person we saw (sorry Trudy, Hummel, Cartwright and Kelsey) - it is just a big old cousin lovin' video!

Happy Easter every one, hope the Bunny was good to you! He was good to this house - says a super hyper 2 year old.

A Quicky

We went home for the weekend and being away always puts me behind... suitcases are unpacked but that's pretty much where it ends.
The weekend was full of family and friends and good times. Something great to come about it.

For now, I leave you with this little gem.... pretty much my favorite photo of the two of them together. Ever.

IMG_7071

He finds her amazingly interesting.
She finds him easily entertained.

I find them both to be all that is good in this world.
